I have to admit, I am ashamed. I have been faithfully following the fashion world for almost 10 years now and am proud of the amount of information I have learned. I follow the latest styles, keep up with current accessories including jewelry, shoes, and bags. I track the hot colors and cool hues each and every season. Yet, I still did the unforgivable last week. I shake my head just thinking about it. I should have known better. I should have my blogger’s permit revoked for at least a week. Maybe even two.
So what did I do that was so bad? Oh, I can barely even type it, it’s so horrid:
I wore athletic sneakers with skinny jeans.
It’s okay…it’s okay…breathe through it. I know, it’s hardly conceivable. And me of all people should know better. The one who writes about the rights and the wrongs of how to mix and match your own personal wardrobe. And what do I do? I go out to a public place in black skinny jeans and black LA Gear sneakers. AND… AND… you know what it is even worse? I wore white socks. Oh geesh…I better go get some smelling salts, you look queasy. I look queasy!
When I got to the store and I put my feet outside of the car, I knew immediately what I had done. I knew! But it was too late. I had to go pick up things for the house and myself and with gas prices, I was not going to go home–change–and come back. I had to suck it up, put my head down, and get done as quick as possible. The minute I got home, I went to confess to my husband the terrible thing I had done. He told me I’d be fine, and I’d have plenty of times to redeem myself. It did put my mind somewhat at ease.
So now that I have made it very clear what NOT to wear with the ever popular skinny jeans, or even jeggings, you might be asking yourself…what DO I wear? Here is a few fashionable suggestions to keep you looking hip in today’s hottest jeans:
Boots – All kinds of boots look good with skinny jeans. Flat combat style, thigh high leather, Uggs, even sky-high platform boots. Solids or prints, they are a match made in fashion Heaven. Flats – A shoe that hasn’t always been flattering to the foot has made remarkable strides (pardon the pun) in the fashion world. Pumps – Mary Janes, strappy sandals, stilettos, platforms, mules, slingbacks, peep toe. Those are all some of the popular styles of pumps that are out there to be found and all of them look great with skinny jeans. The form-fitting jeans give the illusion of your legs being elongated, and a few inches of heel can help that even more. Not to mention, you don’t get much sexier than the jeans fashion and the high heel combo. With endless styles and colors, the looks you can achieve are limitless! I beg of you…don’t make a fashion faux pas like I did last week. Even though time might not be on your side in the morning, think your outfit through. And if you don’t think you’ll be awake enough to know your plaids from your prints in your morning fog, it’s not a bad idea to plan your outfit out the night before—from head to toe and all the accessories in between. Since this embarrassment last week, I have since placed a pair of jazzy metallic flats in my car permanently. Just in case! Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice? Put me in a fashion time out!
